BP goes up after meal

Must Read
What exactly is blood pressure in the first place? And how can you know if your blood pressure is either high OR low?...
Millions of American have blood pressure problems. Learn what can put you at risk of high or low blood pressure here....
High blood pressure and low blood pressure manifest physical symptoms. Learn the signs of hypertension and hypotension here....
In the last few monts I had 4 cases when my BP increased about 10 minute after I eat lunch. From Normal to 150/95. then slowly after few hours went to normal.
For the last 3 years i have been eating only the right food and exsersizing 30 to 60 min every day. I have been eating salads and chicken and fish , no pork or beef. My wife is cooking whitout salt, and I'm very strict on eating low sodium food. The salt I replaced with hot peppers.
And No problems for the last tree years.
And suddenly high blood pressure. In the last 3 monts i had 3 blood tests.
fist test total cholesterol 246/HDL 55/VLDL 20/LDL 171 ; TSH 0.146
after 1 month
second test total cholesterol 189/HDL 52/VLDL 15/LDL 122 ;
after 3 monts
Last test total cholesterol 241/HDL 54/VLDL 18/LDL 169 ; TSH 0.302

And because one of the rises of bp after eating was 170/100 my doctor put me toprol 50mg. and he want to test the thyroid levels. While waiting for the lab order to come in the mail I start searching the net for answers.
I suspect Hyperthyroid. I start looking about the iodine i take with the food , and I remember that all the cases of high BP are day after I had a fish for diner or lunch.
So I don't know the answer. Is the hyper thiroid become hyper active after meal or is always hyper active? Maybe something else is trigering this HBP. I'm afraid to eat. I cant eat the bad food, the good food is not good anymore for me. I just hope that this is something temporary. Also often last mont I have nasal congestions and I'm using afrin.

Very truthful, my blood pressure can go up just thinking about it....It is possible that you are so stressed out by this, that you are kind of making yourself sick just thinking about it....

I have had high blood pressure since I was 28...After our third child I went on medication..It runs in my family so I have it too....A very caring nurse once told me something that may help you....She said when I take your blood pressure think of something wonderful...Be out in a boat and you are watching the Sun go down...You are at peace with the world and you are resting your eyes for just a moment.....It did help me and hopefully it may help you........

Take care,
Caroline

What other tests have been done and what type of physician have you or are you seeing for this?

I don't have high blood pressure however I switched from normal salt to Sea Salt with Iodine and love it, will never go back to the old salt, anyways Sea Salt is better for you.

Your cholestrol is high. I just found out mine is very close to your last test and I exercise, eat all the right foods however mine keeps going up.

Ask your doctor to rule out Metabolic syndrome (an issue with metabolism), you are having your thyroid checked as well which is great...when these things are out of whack, things have a tendacy to follow...

Do you have access to a blood pressure machine to take your measurements throughout the day?

I am not sure of your age but cholesterol levels may rise as you age...This must be watched...It could be from something salty that you are eating that is working against your body...Maybe some type of fish or whatever with salt in it...I am not sure about hot pepper if they are marinated to make them as they are...

I see an Internal Medicine Doctor...My cholesterol is much lower but I take something to keep it there...Have this all checked out....I would say without a doubt that your fear is adding to this.....

Take care,
Caroline

HBP after eating
I have breakfast and my blood pressure goes up... to the point of feeling dizzy... I am taking 8 mg Atacand and it still this happens....

This is an issue in several discussion lists... Let's try to find a scientific research... according to the Canadian site, blood pressure could go up 10 points for 30 min after eating.

High blood pressure

Someone else mentioned that he or she is taking Afrin.... I too have been taking a medicine that may raise BP, steroids for asthma and sinusitis lately... My guess is that this person and I are more susceptible to increases in BP because of these medications and what in a normal person would not be noticed, in our case the BP goes up a notch...

Stop the decongestant!!!
Many people do not realize it but decongestants raise blood pressure! Did your blood pressure seem to go down, at least a little, after you got over your cold?

I have the same problem. My BP goes up after breakfast. I'm on all 3 meds: Ace inhibitor, beta blocker and calcium channel blocker. I have a monitor & check my BP throughout the day because it spikes all of of sudden in the morning or evening. Now I have protein in the urine. What should I do?

I'm currently reading a book called the "Magnesium Miracle" which says that a deficiency in this mineral could possibly contribute to high blood pressure. Most people (unless they take a supplement) probably do not get enough of this mineral because most of the soil is deficient (hence our food is deficient). Also, I've read that Cortisol (stress hormone) can raise bp, and one of the foods that can increase Cortisol is coffee (caffeine).

Have yo been checked for SLEEP APNEA? The symptoms are VERY close. I have MOST of the same symptoms. I've also had a shootload of tests for this that and whatever. I really think apnea may be the answer for MOST of your issues. Look it up, the LONG TERM affects are actually not good. I am at the point of looking into Apnea. (it is stopping breathing suring sleep) Well, we KNOW I have it cause my husband has had to wake me up to breathe. He has witnessed it. I ALSO have awoken to find the same thing. But this doesn't mean if you have it you should have ALSO had this occur. It usually occurs without you even knowing it. It happens for MICRO soeconds to whole seconds. When it happens, it causes your endocrine (hormonal) system to go into OVERDRIVE and send a SURGE of adrenaline, to MAKE you breathe. But when it happens it causes everything to get out of whack. And it can kill.
I also have had episodes of HBP like HIGH. I needed surgery recently and ALMOST couldn't get it cause my bp was 160/110 we had to WORK to get it down (without meds, I have not gotten to hat point, YET). Anyhow, my symptoms are many, and too many for me to even mention in one post. But, I have MANY of the same issues you've mentioned. Just TRY to look at sleep apnea. I am addressing mine finally on my next visit. I have already seen a sleep specialist. I am not excited, I am afraid of having to use the CPAP machine, fear I will feel smothered by it, or sleepwalking, I will simply remove it. This only AFTER I have to PAY for it!! But, I have FINALLY come to see that if apnea IS the cause of most of this WEIRD crap that I keep going through, I would be CRAZY not to use a machine that helps me SLEEP and makes me well.
Don't rush off to MAYO unless you great ins, or LOTS of money. I was sent there about 12 yrs ago, I was only 28, for precancerous colon polyps. I had no ins. I was asked to deposit $3000 in the main lobby, and told that once I had spent it, they would let me know and I could come back down and refill the kiddie. And they did, I saw one doctor, then got blood tests, then went to another doctor, and sometime in the middle of the day they DID call me down for $2000 more. I was there all day, they sent me from one place to another not really doing a lot of EXTRA tests on top of what my records that I brought said. And at the end of the day, I was told to get a 2nd colonoscopy on 2 yrs, to taper down on the opiod pain meds and take metamucil daily. REALLY? I drove there, paid $5000, spent 2 days of my life wandering from place to place. Which I did, ON MY OWN, no wheelchair, no nurse helping me along the way. All for them to tell me something I could 2 have read on my rx label!!!

My point is, look into Sleep Apnea. If it IS the cause of these problems, I am told treatment makes these things go away!!! Look it up. Also, I am NOT saying DONT go to Mayo, as they ARE good, they DO good things, my grandpa literally lived there for 6 months for migraines in the 40's, so I feel they ARE good. But, it is a big deal. So, if you can find sleep issues to be the problem, AND feel better, you don't need to go to Mayo, YET!!!!! I would like to know what happens with you. I havenot done any mail here yet, but feel free to mail me and let me know how you are and your diagnosis, or lack there of.
