One of my family members has been having gastrointestinal pains and frequent movements. The last few movements have been orange, stinky and mucusy looking. What causes the color and appearance of mucus?

Extremely eHealthy
Abdominal pains like cramps are characteristic for bowel movements in a form of diarrhea (frequent stools)
Stool can have orange color due to few things.
First, it could be resulting from the fact that the stool is passing through the digestive tract too rapidly not giving it a chance to change color (stool starts out green , then turns orange and bright yellow as it goes through the digestive tract; It is bile and bacteria that finally turn it brown).
Orange stool can indicate lack of bile (check for gallbladder disease and liver functioning-hepatitis)
Mucus in stool appears when there is a process affecting mainly your large intestines (ulcerative colitis-inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, or bacterial infection)
The last mentioned conditions cause abdominal pains and diarrhea, too.
Stinky stool, appears when there is a gastrointestinal infection, and when the food is not digested and absorbed properly (the left food becomes a food for gut bacteria, resulting in bacterial overgrowth and production of foul smelling gases).

Best wishes!
