Q: bowel incontinence with Zoloft ?

Hi everyone,

I'm bipolar type I, and I take 100mg of Zoloft (Sertraline) plus 1500mg of Sodium Valproate. I have had bowel incontinence since August of last year, and I came across some information to suggest that one of the side effects of Zoloft is bowel incontinence. It didn't start until about a year after I started taking the drug. It appears to be a rare side effect, but I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this, some information, or know a way (aside from discontinuing use) of determining if it is Zoloft that is causing the bowel incontinence.

Thanks!!

Zoloft, indeed, can cause bowel incontinence as a rare side effect.

Do you get complete loss of control of your bowel movements or just an occasional leakage of stool?

Have you been suffering from chronic diarrhea or constipation?

What about switching to a supstitute for Zoloft?
