I have a hard bump and pain at the location of the fracture, bigger than the normal bump on the side of the 5th metarsal. Would this be bone callus?

List of other diseases, conditions, or injuries and their treatment: asthma, eczema, osteoporosis I take fosamax weekly for my osteoporosis. Do not take anything for asthma or eczema at present.
Have a diagnosis for the current condition: yes
Diagnosis that has been suggested: Cast 5.5 weeks. Crutches for 3 weeks.
Current medical status: 5th metatarsal fracture
Current medical treatment: Returning for xray in 7 days. 2 weeks out of cast.


The bone callus is a formation that appears after a fracture to bridge the gap between the ends of the broken bone. It is formed from the chondroblasts (bone forming cells). The structure is more similar to a cartilage in the beginning, turning into bone tissue in the end. The callus is easily visible with an x-ray. Whether the bump is a callus would be decided with an x-ray.
