I didn't realize this was a pregnancy symptom until today. I am now 18 days late for my period and have taken 4 urine tests (5 days late, 7 days late, 12 days late, and 16 days late...all negative). I used my first morning urine on the on 2 of them and the one taken at 12 days was at my doctors office in the middle of the afternoon when I had a hard time even going to the bathroom - I had to kind of force it. I have not taken a blood test yet so that will most likely be done at my next appointment which is scheduled for July 6th if I dont start another period by then. I was on birth control from May 2007 - May 2008 without missing a day in May so the likelihood that I am pregnant is small and I could be overreacting but with these veins, I am not overreacting. I also have heard that the blue veins can appear while on the pill but I find it weird that they show up now and I have missed my period. I am now off the pill (doctor's orders) until/if I start my next cycle.

Symptoms

I noticed the blue veins late last month (May). They are on each breast and travel to the nipple. I have started having brief headaches right above my left eye. It is like a sharp pain then its gone. The longest it has lasted is on and off for a day. I have had minor cramping (similar to my period starting). I felt like I was going to get my period when it was supposed to come (May 31) and once again 7 days later (June 6) but I have had no spotting, blood, or discoloration. My breasts do not feel sore but they do look a little fuller then normal. I drink pretty much only water, tea, and juice and have noticed lately that I go to the bathroom a little more then normal. It isn't an urgent sensation to go but its just a little more frequent than normal. I noticed a small amount of discharge about 4 days ago but that could be from being off the pill also as I used to discharge like that normally before being on the pill.

I am not sure if I have a specific question rather hearing advice from anyone else who has experienced the same thing or similar and what caused it. I understand most of the symptoms I have had can be related to the pill or hormonal imbalance. If this happened to you and you had mulitple negative pregnancy tests what was the final outcome if you weren't preggo? If you turned out to be preggo how many days late were you when you finally tested positive?

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to give all details that I can think of instead of having to add more. This is a very confusing time for me so I want to thank anyone in advance for any advice you can give.

I knew with all that post I would still forget something. I have had some minor to mediocre lower back pains too as well as a small amount of dizziness/vertigo like feeling just as I am waking up in the morning.

I know this is probably not going to be what you want to hear - but if your body is producing enough hormones to cause pregnancy symptoms, then it would also be producing enough hormones to trigger a pregnancy test. With that said, it doesn't sound like you are pregnant. It sounds like your body is adjusting to how to regulate itself without birth control pills.

Good luck TTC. Remember to MAKE IT FUN.

I was still on the pill when I missed my period. I didn't come off the pill until day 6 late (of course those 6 days were inactive pills). So I don't understand how that works. Sorry if that sounds mean, not trying to be but I am confused that I would be late to begin with while on the pill. BTW, I wasn't trying to get pregnant but I am a heavy smoker and I want to be sure I should quit. I know I should quit anyway but thats alot of potentially unneeded stress for quitting if I don't "have" to. Smile

I guess, if it were pregnancy that made you late on your period to begin with, you'd be having positive pregnancy tests. All the pregnancy symptoms, no period, sore breasts, dizziness, nausea, etc - are caused by hormones that your body gives off when it is pregnant.

It takes 10-14 days after conception for these hormones to become strong enough to cause anything. The first symptom is a missed period. Followed shortly behind by sore breasts and nausea (not all women get this).

Your symptoms could all be related to something else, is what I'm saying. Symptoms are not always indicative of pregnancy. They could be PMS symptoms. Or a hormonal imbalance from going off birth control pills. Your period could have been late due to normal pill useage and the fact that some women can stop having periods, have lesser bleeding, and their period becomes light an non-existent.

What does your doctor say? Why haven't you had a blood test yet? I'd be demanding one.

I gotcha...I am just paranoid now about the blue veins. I had never realized that they are a sign of preg and now they are here and its weird and confusing to me.

Ya, I was pretty pissed at the doctor on Monday when I went. My copay through insurance is $25. That is $25 for a pregnancy test and I could have done at home and gotten the same result. I told him when I got there that I needed a blood test because all urine tests had been neg. I am starting to realize that he is a just a male who doesn't understand and I may need to get a female doctor. If I don't get my period by the end of the month (which is when he expects it to come) than I will either demand a blood test or leave his office and find a new doctor. Razz

Why does your doctor feel you've skipped a period? Considering he works for you, you might want to call up and make another appointment before the end of the month. What is he going to do? Refuse a blood test that you are paying for? That seems like bad medicine, doesn't it?

You have all these signs of pregnancy because you are looking for them. Not conciously, just... you know when you get a new blue car then suddenly you notice everyone is driving a blue car. You never realized it before because you weren't focused on it. Now you are focused on potential pregnancy symptoms.

I'll be honest with you, blue veins were never high on my list of first symptoms. The searing boob pain was though. I couldn't even take a shower without that pain. I've thought I was pregnant a few times, even feared being pregnant, but when I really did fall pregnant the second time, I knew right away because of the agonizing boob pain.

My doctor thinks I have missed it beacuse of a hormonal imbalance. I haven't had sore breasts other then when I push on my nipple but those are sensitive anyway.

I know what you mean by realizing symptoms because you are looking for them and until I realized that blue veins was a symptom I didn't really think I was pregnant. This is pretty much what put me over the line...that and today is 18 days late when I have always been regular. I did spot last month (all brown) also midcycle...on May 17 and again on May 21 - 25. I had a dr appt on May 22 for a pap smear and he wanted to check for preg bc of being on the pill and it was in the middle of my cycle. But that came out neg which seems totally normal because I hadn't even missed a period yet so I thought nothing of it. He just wanted to do one as a precaution.

Me and the dr decided that if that was my cycle being screwed up and "resetting" then I would start my new period by Mon June 16 and no later then June 18...but alas I have not and I don't feel like I am going to so my new date to wait for is June 30. If I haven't started by then I was going to take another test at home before the dr visit.

OH! Another weird thing. I am having pain in my gums (back around my wisdom teeth). I have had them since I was 16, so over 10 years, and I haven't had any issues with them since they orginally came in.
