Q: Blood sugar feels low, but meter says it's 90+

Been dealing with hypoglycemia for a couple years now, and typically don't have many issues. I know when to eat, and I eat right. No junk food - all natural diet, semi-low carb. I finally broke down and got a blood glucose meter after an indecent the past two times I've been hiking. Where my blood sugar drops drastically, causing a panic attack, but I can have a tough time distinguishing the difference between the two.

Anyway, now that I have this meter, I've been testing the past couple of mornings. When it feels like it starts to get low, I'll test, only to have it come back at 90-96 on the meter. Is this normal, or does my system just register 'low' at a different level than other people?

Thanks!

From what I've been told, you start feeling the hypoglycemia effect before your sugar level drop, as a warning. Like "Hey! Eat something because your readings will be lower if you don't do something about it!"

And that's when your reading is low that it's bad.

That's correct. The effect is actually after your sugar drops. The brain is sensing it coming and sends out the warning. Try taking it at more frequent intervals throughout the day, upwards of once every 30 minutes.
