Q: Blood stained mucus ?

Hi, for several years now I frequently have blood streaks in the mucus when I blow my nose - particularly in the morning. The blood doesn't drip and it doesn't seem to get any worse when I have a cold and blow my nose more. I have seen an ENT doctor and she found nothing wrong but it doesn't go away. My GP thinks I have allergic rhinitis. I use Sterimar as a natural nose spray. Am just wondering how "normal" this is and whether others have the same thing? Any experiences would be much appreciated.

Everything I've found on saline nasal sprays says that they have no side effects, no matter how long you have been using them. So I don't understand why you are bleeding. I suffered similar effects from a steroid nasal spray- light bleeding, especially in the morning and an occassional sore in my nostril. I wish I could give you a better answer.

Thanks but I'm sure the saline spray isn't causing the problem - it just doesn't cure it. Would be interesting to know if others have similar problems. Trying to work out how "normal" it is as my GP and ENT consultant don't seem to think there is anything wrong.

It sounds like you have a similar problem to mine. I also get blood stains in my mucus on a daily basis. I was referred to a specialist who examined my nose but could find nothing wrong. I have had it since 2004 whilst I was in Argentina on holiday, which is how I remember the year. All the kitchen rolls that I use for a hanky get blood stained very quickly. It can be very inconvenient at times. Very occasionally I have to get out of bed at night to rush to the bathroom in order to avoid getting the duvet bloodied, not always quick enough though. I wonder what the hell it is.

Just last night I had blood and mucus from my back throat. I smoked in last few years and just quit 2 weeks ago. I lived in California and I have been in Texas for 2 months. It is very hot and I stayed home for a month without going out. There is AC for 24/7 and I had hot bath almost everyday for week. So I guess the weather and life style change causes that or too much AC dried my throat or smoking??? I have no idea I am just seaching on internet all day today. All of them might familiar with you who has the same experience.

I have the same case for a few weeks now. Whenever I pick my nose I find blood stains in my mucus. As far as I can remember this started when we bought a new A/C that cools our room more than how our old unit does. I live in Dubai and its the peak of summer. I am hoping that the changes of temperature is causing this. I haven't founnd an ENT to consult. I will post the result when I get them. I hope this post helps.
