Q: Blood sample for valproate serum monitoring

I am using sodium valproate 2000 mg sustained release tablets at night i.e. od dose. When should the blood sample be withdrawn for monitoring of serum valproate levels? After 12 hrs or before the dose? i.e. 24 hrs?
