Q: Blood pregnancy tests versus home pregnancy tests
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 27th, 2008
i am about one week late getting my period. i have been on birth control for over 7 months now with pretty regular periods, although i have experienced some spotting in past months. but along with my missed period this month i am experiencing some signs of pregnancy. i have been very tired, nauseous at times, some cramping and aching in my lower bach. and also i have had some horrible headaches, which i have had with my last pregnancy. but i have done 2 htp's and both were negative. what shoudl i do? how long should i wait before i make a dr.s appointment? is it true that some people don't test positive until 2-3 months? please help?

The negative pregnancy tests exclude the possibility of pregnancy. You can request a blood pregnancy test to be 100% sure.

Irregular periods (missing period, delayed period, spotting, etc.) and the other symptoms (tiredness, nausea, headache, etc.) could be side effects of the birth control pills. You can continue taking the pills as scheduled. You can consult a gynecologist whenever you want but I don't see any necessity for an appointment for now.

It is not true that pregnancy tests can become positive even 2-3 months after conception. Blood pregnancy tests become positive 10 days after conception. Home (urine ) pregnancy tests become positive 15 days after conception.
