Q: Blood on toilet paper

Hello,

To give a brief background, I am a healthy male in my late 20s. I have had this issue of blood on my toilet paper for the past 4 or 5 years (started in my last years of college I think). I had a colonoscopy done in 2005/2006 and the GI specialist said they found nothing wrong with me (no hemorrhoids no nothing), just to eat more fiber. With this in mind, I figured everything was fine. As you grow older you get more worried about your health so I recently had a physical and the physician gave me one of those take-home stool kits to test for blood. Again, the test said no blood was found in the stool samples. The past few weeks, though, I've noticed the blood is getting brighter red as in there seems to be more blood coming out now. I don't have insurance anymore so I don't want to spend thousands on another colonoscopy if it is unnecessary. Any thoughts on what this could be?

Thanks for your time

I have some experience with this. If the blood is a bright red then this suggests it's from the anus itself and not inside the intestines. It's not difficult to tear the that soft tissue around in there. This seems to fit your situation as tests have not revealed blood in the stool itself. I'm not sure what, if anything, needs to be done about it, but I wouldn't worry too much if the tests didn't reveal any serious damage up in there.

Sounds like it could be hemorrhoids, however i would imagine that the only way to determine the situation for sure would be to find a competent doctor to perform the necessary tests.

Perhaps one of the things you can do is check out the dietary changes recommended for hemorrhoids, implement them, and see if it helps with your problem.

bloody toilet paper
I am experiencing the same issue. I first started noticing that I was getting blood on toliet paper about 1-2 months ago and has occurs just about everytime I go.

I've never noticed any bloody stools, except for this morning, I had a loose stool and noticed that the water was a little redish and I thought I noticed some drops of blood on top of the water. Today was the most blood I've seen.

The weird thing is is that I dont see blood on the forst wipe, it usually is present on the paper after 2-3 wipes. It seems that the amount of blood increases when I tend to push harder.

It doesnt hurt to sit down or to even go to the bathroom, so I'm thinking I dont have hemorrhoids.

There is no pain, no other symptoms that I can find, other than blood when I wipe.

Im going to try to up my fiber intake and water. I dont eat very healthy, being a bachelor and living by myself, I dont exactly cook everynight. I hate going to the doctor and if uping my fiber and water intake dosnt help, I plan on going to the doc to make sure everything is ok.
