my dad is 54 years old, he has had a protrusion in his naval for about 7 years now. it started out small but has grown really big, it looks like the size of an an average guava. he says it hurts when pressed. we have never had it seen or treated. what could this be?

for the last one week he has started passing a lot of blood in his stool. it is normal red coloured blood but fills the bowl. its a lot. he has no pain or irritation, it just comes out with his stool.

he is obese, roughly about 5ft 4" weighing 120-130 KGS.

please let me know what i can do, i cannot seem to get medical insurance for him, as he is obese and has high blood pressure. please advise on what i need to do.

thank you.

You may have to take him to the emergency room and worry about paying the bill later. It sounds like he has a hernia. This can be dangerous because it can obstruct bowel activity and cause constipation. It can also lead to an intestinal obstruction or strangulation, which are serious problems. So, it is important that you have this taken care of as soon as possible. The only treatment for this is surgery.
