Ok, I am 25, and today I go to the bathroom and noticed that my stool looked bright red. I thought maybe it's not blood. Maybe it just looks really red due to something I ate. The second time I went today, it was obviously blood. It was bright red and much more than the first time. It is not hemrriods or anything like that as there is no pain and I know what that feels like. I do know that I also get this pain on the left side of my abdoman and sometimes it moves to the right, but it is mostly in the left side. (Kind of right above my navel.) I had a scan on my gallbladder about a year ago to make sure I did not have gall stones. That was all clear, but the pain still comes and goes. This is the first time I have ever had blood in my stool before. It was also kind of loose and mucousy. It worried me bc my grandfather has colon cancer and there is also different types of cancer that runs in my family. I called the Dr. and they are gonna call me back to schedule an appointment. It didnt seemed like they cared or they were too worried about it. Am I being parranoid??

Have you experienced changed form of your stool?
Why are you sure that isn't due to hemorrhoids?
Do you usually strain to have a bowel movement?

The most common complaint from internal hemorrhoids is painless bleeding, bright red blood on the outside of the stool, on the toilet paper, or dripping into the toilet.
This bleeding usually does not last long.
Internal hemorrhoids can't be seen or felt, cause they are located inside the anal canal.

Have you experienced changed form of your stool? Yesterday it was very loose, so yes.
Why are you sure that isn't due to hemorrhoids? Well It did not hurt. I did not strain.
Do you usually strain to have a bowel movement? No.

I had no idea that it could be hemorrhoids inside the anal canal and not hurt. However it was alot of blood and it looked as if it was mixed in with the stool and mucous both times I went to the bathroom.

Today, however, nothing. Stool is back to normal consistancey and color. No blood. Weird!! Should I see the Dr. anyway? They still have not called back.

There are can be different causes for rectal bleeding.
When the blood is bright instead dark, is more obvious that the bleeding orginates from lower parts of the colon and rectum.

Abdominal pain, diarrhea, and bloody diarrhea (diarrhea mixed with blood) are symptoms of Ulcerative colitis, Crohn's colitis (inflammations of colon), and some bacterial and viral infections (they inflame the colon, too)

There are some other causes, too, like diverticulitis, Meckel's diverticulum, Abnormal collections of enlarged blood vessels under the lining of colon.

For how long you have abdominal pain?
Do you ahve some other gastrointestianl complaints?

I would still see a doctor to rule out any diseases or cancer. It is most likely an internal hemorrhoid. I had the same thing happen about a month ago and I got it checked out.
