Blood glucose levels , hypoglycemia , and diabetes
Posted: 05-11-08 09:44am

sometimes upon waking suffer anxiety, sweating, irritability, internal shaking, nausea, headache, tearful, after cup of tea with sugar symptoms start to subside after breakfast symtoms subside to nil. Have started taking blood glucose levels yesterday.
at bedtime last night levels were 4.8mml then had banana before going to bed. on waking took glucose test - 4.9mml, had two teas and toast then had sunday lunch and waited 2 hours took test and 5.0mml. will continue to test for 1 week as symtoms come and go. Could i have hypoglycemia?? i have good days and bad days. Doctors are not taking any notice at the moment so i have taken matters into my own hands and started testing myself. I do not smoke or drink alchohol but it seems that my sugar is low at bedtime and the recommended is about 8mml.

Normal levels of blood glucose should be in the range of 3.3 – 6.0 mmol/L. After eating, it should be less than 7.7 mmol/L. Blood glucose levels < 3.3 mmol/L are considered as hypoglycemia. According to your measurements you neither have hypoglycemia nor diabetes. Your symptoms (anxiety, sweating, irritability, internal shaking, nausea, headache, tearful) are not due to any hypoglycemia but probably to a neurotic disorder. The problem is that you THINK that you may have certain of these conditions. I can advise you to stop measuring your blood glucose level all the time and maybe also to ask for help from a mental health doctor.
