Q: Blood from vagina
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 7th, 2009
Since the past few days, I've felt some weird movements inside my lower abdominal area and have been very gassy. I've been eating carrots everyday now so I've been getting bowel movement everyday as well. However, during each bowel movement I notice some blood from the vagina that comes out with my discharge? I am irregular but my period should come within this week or next week. This morning I just woke up with a slight hint of brown blood which had leaked out overnight, so it's still too early for me to see if I'm officially on my period now. I'm just concerned because this has never happened to me before. Do you doctors happen to know what might the problem be, and if my medication would have anything to do with it?

Thanks.

The vaginal bleeding might be due to uterine cramps which are mild and are perceived by you as bowel movements.
What caused the uterine cramps can not be told without further examinations. Pelvic examination and ultrasound by gynecologist might reveal the exact cause. Laboratory hormone tests might reveal if there is any hormonal imbalance present.
If none of the mentioned is changed and the quantity of the vaginal bleeding is not further increased and not repeated soon or the next period, then it might be within the normal variations of the menstrual period.
