Good monring honey and welcome to the forum..
Honey I am not a doctor but I have dry eyes and it does hurt..
Take him to an ophthalmologist that specializes in eyes..Your sons eyes are very dry and it is something to worry about..His eyes hurt because of the dryness..When eyes are so dry the lids can stick to the eyeballs and cause cornea abrasions..THIS HURTS--I have severe dry eyes due to an autoimmune diseae called sjorgens..
Your sons eye dryness may be from bloced tear ducts..If that is the case they might be able to put in punctal plugs to keep the tear duct openings running better..
When you call to make an eye appointment ask to speak to the nurse tell her your concerns and ask her if there is an (over the counter eye ointment artificial type tear)for little ones you can use until he is seen..The ointment keeps eyes moist during sleep or rest and keeps a protective barrier over the cornea..As an adult Iuse this nightly and sometimes during day a small amount otherwise I am in pain..Please let me know how this goes..kd
