hi there,
i am not sure if this is the right forum for me. i have been feeling fully full even with an empty stomach for two months now. i have been bloated and experiencing a lot of discomfort in the right upper part of my abdomen. two months ago, i had an ultrasound of my abdomen and it revealed: hepatic steatosis/fatty liver. my doctor advised me to lose some weight and come back in three months time.
i have also been diagnosed of Irritable Bowel Syndrome last month and taking colofac.
i am still bloated. i become conscious of my tummy. i keep trying to feel it and sometimes i find the right side of my tummy is slightly harder than the other side. i sometimes also think it is slightly bigger than the left side.
when i try to lie flat on the floor slowly (as i do it), i could see my stomach sticking out like a small round ball. when i try to press my stomach, i can feel a little pain. the discomfort i feel everyday is from the right side of my stomach in line to where my liver is. the pain used to radiate to my back. the ultrasound of my gall bladder, pancreas, kidneys, aorta are all normal.
what do you think is causing my bloating? and the discomfort in my right upper abdomen?
thank you for reading

Welcome to EHEALTH forum!
A dull ache or discomfort felt in your upper right abdomen, is a possible sign of an enlarged liver, due to fatty liver you have.
Many patient with diagnosis of fatty liver complain on feeling bloated.
On the other side, bloated abdomen is a symptom of IBS, too.
Having a bloated abdomen, passing excess wind, feeling sick and indigestion, with a sense of fullness, are all symptoms of IBS.
Pain and discomfort may occur in different parts of the abdomen due to IBS.

Do you practice proper diet for IBS (food rich in fiber)?

thank you so much for replying- much appreciated.
the discomfort i feel in my right upper abdomen has been going on since june 2008. i am so bloated that i can no longer eat the same amount of food i would normally eat. do you know what is causing the bloating in people suffering from fatty liver? do you think, i can recover from fatty liver? do you think this discomfort will ever go away? i eat proper food now but could you please tell me some of the foods that are high in fiber.
i am not really sure if IBS is the right diagnosis for me. i never had any problems with my bowel movements. i have no diarrhea at all. i don't get constipated at all. i don't feel sick and i don't suffer from indigestion or heartburn.
all i feel is: discomfort in my right upper abdomen triggered by my movements and food, increasing sense of fullness, passing wind about 3-4 times a day so not really often.
i also went to see my doctor and insist to make a further investigation, he asked me which procedure do i prefer, barium enema or colonoscopy. i haven't given my answer yet. i wonder if its worth it. i am 31 years old. do you think i should get my tummy checked?
thank you and please keep in touch.

Sorry for delayed post!
Fatty liver, usually, goes as asymptomatic, but, in a number of patients can cause pain under the rib cage on the right side of the body, swelling of the abdomen, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and abdominal pain.
Loss of appetite or easily feeling full, is a symptom of fatty liver, but, it can be due to a colon cancer, too.
So, it will be good idea to get a colonoscopy examination.
Fatty liver, usually, is reversible once the cause of the problem is diagnosed and corrected (alcoholism, malnutrition, pregnancy, diabetes, high blood triglycerides; cause for developing a fatty liver).
