It's probably because of the shot, unfortunately that's pretty common. However, if you think you are losing too much blood, you will want to see your doc to make sure you don't get anemic or anything.

I'm so glad to have found this forum. I am 24 years old and have been trying to figure this problem out. I am generally healthy never had any issues and never took any form of birth control until August 08- Depo, I had spotting for the first few weeks then no period and I was THRILLED (although not having sex it was still nice to not worry) toward November when I was due for my 2nd depo shot I was bleeding again and figured it was "wearing off" and everything was normal- Then I had my period for 2 1/2 months! I decided not to get the shot again this time and my doc put me on progesterone pills for 10 days- stating everything would return to normal. I took the pills and the "period-like" bleeding stopped, but the last 3-4 months every time I have clitoral (no penetration- still not having sex) stimulation I bleed heavily for a few hours- clotted, fleshy deep red blood. I've been seeing a guy for several months and he must think I'm such a prude because I wont let his hand come anywhere near my vagina because I'd be mortified if I started bleeding all over... this is awful! HELP!!!!!!! I've also never had an abnormal pap or issues with yeast ect, but since the bleeding stopped I've had white discharge with a musky smell to it and I don't know what to do- I feel so far from sexy its unbelievable- did I ruin my body with 2 stupid depo shots I didn't even really need? This is terrible!

Depo spotting
I have been bleeding for 7 months straight and stopped for a week last week. Had sex then started bleeding again a couple days ago. The doctor's office tells me its "normal". Its NEVER normal to bleed that long...especially when my last shot was in september. I REALLY need some advice as to what to do. Its not bad bleeding but dark clotty spotting, and its too embarrassing to try to have sex like that.

Bleeding endlessly from Depo provera
I got my first Depo shot in August 2009 and it was given to me two days before I was to start my normal menstrual cycle. My cyle didn't come for 3weeks,but I was bleeding for 4months straight non-stop heavy bleeding. Every since then I have had a 1week break of no bleeding and then it started right back up bleeding heavy again and it has now been 6months since I got the initial shot and I'm still bleeding. This can't be normal!!!! I never even got the second shot because I did not like the fact that I had been bleeding for 3months after I got the first shot! Somebody help please.

depo
depo is not good i would never get it again was on it for 1 year and am now bleeding continuously my ob gyn said i will probly have to have a hysterectomy to stop the bleeding so that has ruined me becuse i do want a baby. but he said thats the only way to stop the bleeding. i dont think anyone should take depo because it will just ruin your life....my friend had been on ndepo for 2 years and got off of it and has not had a period for three months she also wants a baby but cant have one because depo has ruined her body..they say thinning oif the uterus stop bleeding well why dont depo stop bleeding the progestin is supposed to but instead it makes the bleeding worse.

bleeding
im 16 and got my 1st depo shot. it was great at first but then after about 2 weeks i got very light bleeding and had it 4 3 weeks straight, then when i was on holidays it stopped for 3 or 4 days and started again. some days could be worse then others i still have it and its about 5 weeks now. i thin the problem is that we werent told enough about the side affects and know are worried. i have been to the doc and this is what he told me.. it is normal to have spotting of bleeding or prolonged for the 1st 2 shots but after that if u still are having heavy periods somethings not right. its changing the way our menstral cycle works so of corse its going to like react some way. i have to go 4 my 2nd in 3 weeks but i have to say the bleeding has nearly stoped.. i hope that im ok. the things we do for sex lol

Is this a side affect of the Depo shot
I've been on Depo for 5 years and I've never had a period since then. I missed my Depo shot once because of health reasons and surgery's. I got my period back then I went back on Depo as soon as I could get an appointment. I got my most recent shot last month and yesterday, my period has come back and I've been experiencing extremely bad stomach pain. I've never had cramps before since I've gotten my period but for the last few weeks even before my period has come on I've had pretty bad pain and it's worse not the my period is on is this normal?

Depo Provera Bleeding
Holy Crap I thot I was losing my mind. I was on depo for almost a year and I loved it. I'm very forgetful and was mortified by the thought of missing a pill. So depo was a perfect option for me and I had a very good experience with it. I only ever bled near the end of the three months. It was always light and always stopped after I got the next shot. I broke up with my boif and decided that since I wasn't getting any it wasn't worth the money so I went off of it. 10 months later I got back on the shot and the first shot was fine. I've had my second shot since and I have been bleeding almost constantly for almost 2 months now. Worse yet, if I stop bleeding for a day or two it starts back up as soon as I have sex and let me tell you its horribly embarrassing. I can't even enjoy it because I'm always worried and constantly checking for the red monster. I'm about to make a vow of celibacy and my boif is not gonna be happy about it. Will this go away??? I've decided to go through with my next shot (less than a month away) and if it continues I'm just gonna hafta find something else. Has anyone else been through this and leveled out back to a normal cycle eventually???

Ruefully,
The Soon-To-Be Nun

I'm so glad to see other women are having this problem. I had ONE shot in August 2010 and have not stopped bleeding. March 14 it will be 8 months! My doctor told me that it's perfectly normal for women to bleed for up to a year, even if they've only had one shot. It's not a light bleeding, it's not irregular...it's a heavy, painful period and I am so disgusted that I even started this form of birth control. Needless to say, my partner won't come near me...not that I would want him to while this is going on anyway. My doctor also gave me a pack of Beyaz birth control pills to 'stabilize' my uterus but it hasn't had any effect. Sad Not a good choice for me.

Depo constant bleeding...Help!
I'm 37, and started depo shots shortly after the birth of my daughter. I've pretty much been bleeding constantly since she was born (5 months ago). I was having a normal period when I got the first shot, stopped for less than a week, then started up again. I haven't stopped since, and I had the second shot over a month ago. Talked to the docs and they won't give me pills b/c I'm over 35 and a smoker. My husband's PO'd b/c it's ruining our sex life. I've also been experiencing vaginal dryness and difficulty orgasming, both of which I never had any trouble with before these shots. I'm calling the docs again tomorrow and telling them that either they can give me something to fix this problem, or I'm stopping the shots, and let whatever happens happen. I've tried other BC, and they didn't work, or caused other probs. The weird thing is I used depo before, and never had any prob.

Has nobody on this post had the talk with their gyno BEFORE getting the Depo!? The gyno should clearly tell you that Depo may and WILL cause irregular bleeding and absent periods for up to a year after first dose. And it may cause changes in weight, appetite, sexual desire, just like any other form of birth control.

As for the previous posters who have mentioned being on the shot for more than a year and having awkward bleeding sessions lasting for weeks or months- you should mention that to your gyno.

Same problem here.. I bleed for about 8 months straight and had maybe 3 weeks total off. During sex I WOULD START BLEEDING.. pretty darn embarrassing for a 20 year old. I told my gyno about it and she said it was normal. I have been off of the shot for about a year and I still have yet to be normal. I get my period for about two months straight and then I'll have a couple weeks off. However, now even when I'm off my period and I get slightly aroused I will bleed for a couple days!! I have an appointment scheduled with 2 other gynos to get a second and third opinion because it is not normal.

Depo Bleeding
I need to find something to fix this...Maybe a hysterectomy?! My gyno mentioned this a tiny bit but really pushed how I would stop having any periods at all. My fiance and I just do the deed anyway. Just gotta keep dark sheets on the bed. I miss the "down there" stuff, though.

Why are they telling us it's normal?
I'm having the same problem and don't under stand why because I've been havin this shot on and off since 2009 and this never happened.
Went to see my nurse who claims she never heard of anyone having prolonged bleeding while on the depo and assureed me it will stop.
It better stop
