I had a copper coil fitted about 3 months ago. Since then every month I have a week of no bleeding followed by 2 weeks of light bleeding and then a week of normal/heavy bleeding (the week when my period would usually be). I seem to be bleeding 3 weeks out of 4! Is this normal with a copper coil and likely to settle down after a couple of months?
Thank you.

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
Few women experience heavy bleeding for few months after IUD insertion. If this does not resolve in 2-3 menstrual cycles (after IUD insertion), you should consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist for further evaluation to look for any underlying cause responsible for your changed period pattern. Treatment as needed (based on examination findings and investigations results) would be started to help you to control your bleeding and regulate your periods. Consider being in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet.
Take care.
