for about a year now I have been bleeing through my urethra during my period. I have been treated several times for infections but every month the same thing happens. My doctor thinks I am crazy. Why is this happening?

Are you absolutely positive that the blood is coming from your urethra? If so, the only thing I can think of is that you have bladder endometriosis. When endometriosis occurs, thickened lining goes to other parts of the body. When a woman has her period, she sheds the uterine lining and- in cases of endometriosis- the lining everywhere else sheds as well. Do you have any symptems of endometriosis or have you ever been checked for it? Severe cramps, painful intercourse, pain during bowel movements, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, bleeding during/ after sex when not menstruating?
I think this is serious and you should get a second opinion. Urinating blood could indicate a serious problem.

The only time I have this problem is during my period. No abnormal bleeding at all any other time. I also think it has something to do with endometriosis as well. I had a lapraoscopy about 10 years ago and it indicated there were no issues , however, alot can change over 10 years 3 kids....... I have a Dr's appointment in July. Thanks for your response

Hello,
Did you ever find out if that is what it was from?
I too noticed blood from there and had everything else ruled out by a Urologist. I have since had my Mirena IUD removed and now got my first full-blown period, and sure enough it seems to be all coming from there. I thought this all along as well. I have had endo before, but on an ovary. I think the Mirena had a part in it because I was ovulating again, and then your period can stop but I wonder if it was still trying to come but got backed up by the bladder area. Very interesting, this is the first time I found a post like mine finally, and am dying to know what you found out!!

lovtojog, did you ask the gyno about it? I am due for an ultrasound as my doc wants to check for endo/fibroids, etc. If that is all ruled out, I am really at a loss!! He doesn't think it's endo so I have no idea what it is, everything else has been ruled out.

Same here with the timing but I don't have the back or bladder pain. Did they run a bunch of tests on you to rule out anything with urology? I had a cat scan of my kidneys, and a cystoscopy of the bladder. They figured it was stones, even though I had no symptoms..but nothing was found. Minus a small polyp externally which they then removed but the bleeding continued. The gyno told me that the cystoscopy should have shown if there was endo. I was supposed to have the ultrasound yesterday but the tech had a family emergency. I have it a week from Monday, and will post then!

Had u.sound today; waiting for results-was told uterus looked good; he wanted to go over the rest today and will call today or tomorrow. Said endo on bladder could only be seen with surgery, not u.sound. Cystoscopy should have shown if there was any endo inside bladder. So will discuss this after he calls..not sure I will ever get to the bottom of it. Do you have any appts scheduled soon? I wish the first poster would have replied with whatever she may have found out since we are the only 3 writing on here.

I agree Chase, I wish she had posted also. My Uroligist didnt say anything when I had the cysto, or torture as I caleld it. I hated that so much. I had an appointment today with my uroligist and he cancelled again 3rd time. So I caleld my primary Dr and have an appt with her, Im pretty sure they are going to say I need to go to a gyno. How long have you had this issue? Do you have IC also?

No IC. The cysto was fine for me also, that's why I wonder if we even have the same thing. You are having back pain also. Either your urologist wasn't very competent or something else is going on that made the cysto so painful for you. That's just it, I have no other urinary issues. It's just the menstrual blood. Now that I am off the Mirena and back on the pill, I have no spotting from there, just my normal cycle. So that tells me it's menstrual blood--but they found blood in my urine every time I gave a sample. Very odd! The first time I went to the gyno, she said they may not even find a reason for the blood, but then the Urologist said usually they do find a reason. I first noticed the blood in July of this year. I would see a gyno too, when is your primary doc appt? I take it you have IC? What were your symptoms for that and how did they confirm it?

HI,
I have horrible back pain, had a staph infection in my bladder and a uti for a while last year. That all cleared up. At the beginning of this year he noticed i had a red bladder wall. When I told him about the blood from my urthea when I was on my period he said not possible. Basicly the lining of my bladder is bad. I have had bladder treatments for months and really no relief. I dont have as much burning when i pee anymore which is nice. But the blood coming from that area cant be normal you and the other girl are the only 2 people I have found, My cousin is a nurse and told me I might has Endo...I have an appt on Thrusday are you in the US? Im in SO Cal.

I am in Southeastern Wisconsin. Of all the Googling I've done, bladder endo is all I have come up with as well. We'll see what my results are, but again I guess if it would be any endo on the outside of the bladder, I'd need surgery to see for sure. I'll ask if he thinks it is necessary, but with no other symptoms or pain he may just have me wait it out. I wouldn't want any other urinary symptoms in the meantime however. I guess we'll see. It's almost as if my cycle is going the wrong way, through the uterus and then up and out the wrong way! It does sound impossible, I agree. I feel for you going through all this other pain though. For me the oddity of it all is what is getting to me, the anxiety thinking it is something serious. But now that almost every test in the book has been run and everything serious ruled out, I have just come to the conclusion that it's minor but annoying!

Right! I am Nicole Smile
I too would love an answer, I have been bopped around so many times I lost count. You really sound like you should see a gyno if all this is so painful during your cycle. It has GOT to be related. That's why I know mine is menstrual related too, as it was menstrual blood all along. Ah the joys of being a woman!!

Yea when I realized that it was coming from there I thought way back and i realized I have had this a long time. Im 38 almost 39. I have 2 children via c section. I looked up Endo and it says that is one common factor. I think maybe I have had this for a long time and now its starting to affect me. When I talked to my friends about it they where like What the heck...there is something wrong. I have to agree. Like you ive been back and forth to other drs. Hopefully both of us can get some answers.
