bleeding after medicial abortion
I'm also thankful for this website. Tomorrow i have been bleeding for a month the blood i have to admit has died down and is no heavier than what my normal periods would be as they as usually quite heavy anyway. I waited for up to 2 weeks but craved about 3 days before the 2 weeks should of been and i used a condom twice when we did but both times it split in half so we gave up using the condoms, which we were only really using for infection as i have the implant. When having sex it does tend to make me bleed more the next day which i hope is normal? and not an infection other times it has been very little during sex or none at all. Some nights i can do without blood others i will bleed. The bleeding now has started to turn a dark brown colour and other times will be a bright red sometimes the nights after sex or even if i haven't had sex this is normal, right? I'm 16 and not a huge fan on the doctors and wont ever go alone! So i would rather only go if something is seen to be a danger. I was told everything was passed at the hospital and i haven't really experienced any pain, the first times having sex was quite sore though and i've only had a couple of tiny cots which dont scare me as i would get them in my normally periods before anyway.
From your other posts i have realised the length of time you bled will differ, as i was told and i know of someone who bled for five weeks after but i just wanted to write to explain whats happening with me as i know other girls are proberly in the same situation and i want to know that the colours of the blood changing and sex without using a condom now is having a bad affect or i should expect this and it's not because having sex three days before the 2 weeks was up. Your help is greatly appreicated Smile

Hi! I had a medical abortion july 7/2010. I was 3 1/2 wks pregnant. I'm very healthy and my periods have always been regular and last from 5-7 days (day 2-3 heavy bleeding) with no cramps. After taking the pills everything went just as they explained at the clinic. I didn't bleed too much or had killer cramps. I only took 2 tylenols after the Misoprostol. After that I've been bleeding like Im stuck on my worst day during my period, passing small clots but no cramps. I'm concerned because I didn't bleed troughout the night but I've been bleeding more this morning than in the last few days and passed a BIG clot ( the size of the palm of my hand). I called the clinic and they said it was normal. Im checkup is in two days. What dou you girls think? Is this normal? much love to all of you.

Yeah, it is normal. If the bleeding becomes REALLY heavy (soaking a pad in an hour or less) or there are clots larger than a lemon (that one clot you passed is okay, that was probably the pregnancy and the bulk of the lining of your uterus), or if you have foul-smelling green or yellowish discharge or a fever, you need to go to the hospital.

post abortion symptoms bleeding constipation and tender belly
I had an abortion on july 20th. (about 5 weeks ago) I had light bleeding for about 3 weeks and then it stopped. After about a week I got my period, and again it was very light for about 4 days. On the 5th day (today) I started bleeding pretty heavily. Filling a pad every few hours and some tenderness just under my belly button. I have also been constipated a few times throughout all of this. Is this reason for concern?

How do i know what bleeding is my normal period?
Wow, I'm amazed at the responses.I had a surgical abortion 2 weeks ago 8/18/10. I had very light dark bleeding, barely anything. No cramping ever or discomfort. I inserted my nuva ring 5 days after my procedure as instructed. For the past week (with the nuva ring) I have had dark brown bleeding sometimes heavier. Now on day 7 of the nuva ring (day 12 after surgical abortion) my bleeding is red and a little heavier.I'm a little irriated because my vaction is on 9/14 and i guess the bleeding will continue. Sad Is this my period now? Doesn't the nuva ring slow down the flow atleast? Please help. Does my bleeding eventually stop and then the next bleeding is my period?

medical abortion
we always hear, everyone is unique in their own way.. so i guess, each person's body reacts differently towards this abortion. coming from a place where pregnancy out of wedlock is a taboo, what more an abortion, i had enough worries myself going through this alone. i had mine 3 weeks ago, did it medically, where i had to take pills to induce the abortion. i was bleeding heavily on the 3rd day, had bad cramps and had to skip work for 4 days straight. the bleeding became lighter over time and now after 20 days it still hasn't stopped, when i was told by the doctor that the bleeding would stop after 14 days. i wasn't asked to go for another check up, which worries me because i am still bleeding now. but now that i have read all of these, i feel rather relieved. thanks a lot all of you for sharing your experience. i guess as long as u don't have symptoms like fever or any pain at all, we need not worry much. having said all that, i still wonder when can my period cycle be normal again..

Whats Normal
Hi peeps,

I am so glad to have sought relief from everyones posts on the page. I had an abortion on the 17th September 2010 and passed the pregnancy absolutely fine. I went home feeling rather tender and bleeding extremely heavy (i felt this was ok as my periods tend to be heavy also). It is just over a month since i had my abortion (medical) and i am still bleeding.
The bleeding has certainly died down since i had the termination (at first i was changed a heavy flow pad every hour or so). Now i only change my pad a few times a day just for hygienic reasons not to wear the same pad for ages, as the bleeding is of light flow and brownish and occasionally containing smallish lumps (a bit like a clot which has taken its time to pass through). I started taking the pill (Yasmin) about a week after the procedure and i am assuming that this is the reason for the continuous bleeding (i think they call this breakthrough bleeding), i have just started my second pack of pills as i am so sick of bleeding i dont want to stop to have a heavy period however this has caused cramps (this is probably my body having a 'mock' period). I have not experienced any feverish symptoms or abnormal discharge and have had sex since the abortion (it did not hurt however i would imagine some of you girlies can relate when i say it didnt feel comfortable and i do not feel sexy). The only other thing i will mention is that i am also still bloated after the abortion and still dont feel upto putting on my dancing heels and minidress...i think everybodys body is different and if you know in yourself that you dont feel well and have a bad gut instinct then see a doctor; otherwise abortion is both a physical and mentally exhausting passage to go through and this is all part of your body returning to normal.

Love yas girlies xxxxx

Hi Everybody,

Apologies if this seems a bet rude or out of the blue, but my name is Elaine and I am doing a masters in Journalism in DCU. For my thesis, I am making a radio programme about abortion in Ireland, what help is there for women both before and after an abortion in Ireland.

At one stage I was facing up to the prospect of having an abortion also, nobody ever knew only my boyfriend. I was just so confused and scared, did not know who to talk too or where to go. I ended up having a miscarriage though and this is the reason I have chosen to do a thesis on this issue, it is MASSIVE yet it seems to be swept under the carpet here and is still taboo.

I was researching online and came across this site. Are there any Irish girls out there willing to talk to me about your experiences?

Thanks,
Elaine

Med abortion...
Hi,

I had a medical abortion one month ago. I haven't stopped bleeding although it has slowed down in the last week. I had an ultrasound today and they advised me I needed to go to the hospital for a surgical abortion/to remove the remaining matter, which still requires going under anaesthetic etc, and there is no other option. The radiographer advised me that this occurs frequently and she has even noticed an increase in the need for surgical abortions in the last few months, after the medical procedure has been performed... Very frustrating, if I had known the incidence of this was so high I would not have gotten a medical abortion to begin with. The stats seem to say it occurs around 5% of the time, however medical professionals are apparently noticing more of this...

I am in a similar situation. I agree that they need to revise their stats.

Hello everyone. I had a medical abortion about three weeks ago. I bled for a full seven days, very lightly, and passed some clots, and then finished. I have still not gone for a follow up appointment but the other day I went to work and got a gush of very fresh blood. But that night when I went home from work, I was not bleeding at all. I checked the next day, which was today, and I am still not bleeding. I thought I was getting my period but it is completely gone. I don't know what to think. Help?

Medical Abortion not quite as expected
Hey
I also had a medical abortion. I received the 2 shots on monday june 13. I inserted the 800mg pills on tuesday the 21st as my doctor advised. I started bleeding lightly the next day and still am. A few small clots. not sure if it worked? I was bleeding before i had the first shot for about one week. About as much as I am bleeding now but it stopped for one day (june 20) but then started after i inserted the pills? i cant get a hold of my doctor right now and the weekend is starting. has this ever happened to anyone before? Im really scared and keep freaking myself out reading all the stories. My periods are usually very normal. no cramps heavy for 2 days light for the other 2. I know everybody is different but I just want some advice as I wait to talk to my doctor....

Stop/start bleeding
Hi Ladies, I'm pretty relieved seeing that I'm not alone in the post-abortion weird bleeding. I too bled for two weeks, then it completely stopped for two weeks and returned. I know many people would say it's just my normal period, but my period always starts heavy then consistently tapers off over four days and this time I'm bleeding heavy, then not at all, then heavy, then light, etc. The blood is also darker and there are usually small clots. I'm just wondering if your period can be effected this way by the abortion or if there is possibly an infection or products of conception left behind. Did anyone else experience the same?

I had an abortion four weeks ago and my follow up is in one week (that was the quickest I could get back in there) I stopped bleeding at about 3 weeks, but I have noticed when my boyfriend and I have sex there is very light bleeding. It lasts up to about 2 to 3 minutes afterwards and it's very light and barely red, more brown than red. Is this normal? Could the penetration and stimulation be triggering my uterus to empty out an excess blood? I suppose I could wait a week and ask, but I figured I could know beforehand too. Thanks!

Abortion.
Hi, i had a abortion back in august. i had the pill abortion, i had bleeding for a week, then in september i had five days of bleeding which seemed to me was a normal period, but two weeks after that i had very light bleeding for ten days, now i have no sign of having a period, and i fear that if that was a proper period that i had for five days, that makes me late and im so confused and scared.
