Hello, i am concerned for my girldriend. she has been bleeding for about 3 weeks. She is on Depo and has been for about 5-6 months. The bleeding started after fingering and I am just concerned. She had surgery for her endometriosis about 7 months ago and she thought maybe it had something to do with that, but I have been reading up on depo and I am starting to think maybe its just a side effect? Any help is appreciated, thank you!

It is very important to find out where is bleeding comming from.

If the blood comes from inside the uterus (metrorrhagia) it is very unlikely that the fingering caused the bleeding. Metrorrhagia can be functional or organic. Functional metrorrthagia is due to a hormonal disbalance in the axis hypothalamus-pituitary-ovaries. Such disbalance can be also caused by the hormones from outside (side effect from hormonal contraception). Organic metrorrhagia is due to endometrial hyperplasion, endometrial polyp, submucous myoma, infection, cancer etc.

If the blood comes from the vulva, vagina or outer cervix bleeding could be due to injury caused by fingering but other options like infections, tumors etc. are also possible.

Your girfriend should consult a gynecologist as soon as possible.
