Around three years ago, I got my first UTI, back pain and all. It was horrible. I went to the doctor and got antibiotics and she said if I drank some cranberry juice it should help a little. It was gone incredibly fast. I'm 19 by the way.

Since then, I had only had another one come maybe once a year and after drinking a LARGE cup of juice, it usually went away.

Well, since my fiance is in the army, I only have sex maybe every three months when I go visit him. The last time I went, we had sex, and the next day I kept getting the HORRIBLE urge to pee and the stinging sensation when I did pee those three drops or so. I bought a juice from the gas station and it went away within an hour or so. I believe it was because of the sex because the same thing happened the next two days and it would be gone an hour after each juice and when I went home, I was fine.

Is this normal? I usually don't drink cranberry juice (even though I do like the taste) and I do tend to drink lots of Coke, but is it normal for this to happen? And for a juice like that to make it go away in an hour? When I told someone it went away after an hour they didn't believe me. I really had no more burning or urge to pee after the juice. Will the pills work that fast as well? I'm planning to go visit him and I think having to stop for some juice is not very.. appealing? So I would like to take some just in case, would they work as fast? Please help.

Sexual intercourse is a common cause for urinary tract infection and although rare, but, some women like you have an UTI anytime they have sex.
Having frequent UTI's since childhood, diabetes, waiting too long to urinate, are all predisposing factors to develop urinary infection.
You should urinate before and after sex as well as a mean of flushing out any bacteria that may enter the urethra during sexual intercourse.
Also, you can have a shower before and immediately after the sex, for the same effect.
Cranberry juice is well known to reduce the frequency of UTI's and to stop one amazingly quickly after it has started.
Instead drinking a juice, you may buy an over-the-counter cranberry supplements.
Some physicians suggest antibiotics to be taken immediately following sex for women who tend to have frequent UTIs.
Since you find the cranberry juice helpful, there is no need to switch it with drugs (they can cause side effects).

Best wishes!
