I have received 6 (yes, 6!)positive home pregnancy tests.

Four of these were First Response; two were Answer. However, excluding a late period, I have not had any other pregnancy symptoms.

I have suffered from chronic bladder infections for over two years. I read that bladder infections can cause false positive pregnancy tests if they are bad enough to cause blood or protein to be in your urine. But I have received such mixed answers concerning whether or not this is even possible that I am really confused!

I do not have insurance and called the low-income clinic in our area to schedule an appointment. They cannot see me for a couple of weeks, but the nurse said she did not see how a bladder infection could alter the results of my test. However, there is enough literature on the subject out there that it has me concerned.

I took an AZO UTI detection test and it came back positive for leukocytes and negative for Nitrite. While even the leukocytes were not as bad as they have been in the past, I am still unsure whether or not to believe I am actually pregnant.

How much blood or protein would have to be in my urine to cause a false positive pregnancy result? Could a slight infection cause this confusion or would it have to be a very bad infection?

hi there,
I'm almost 100% certain that a bladder infection could not alter pregnancy test results. It is very possible for you to have no symptoms yet as some women don't experience any symptoms far into their pregnancy. Since pregnancy tests detect the level of HcG ( a hormone produced upon implantation of the fertilized egg) there is no way for a bladder infection to affect that. Even if blood and/or protein was in your urine, it still would not affect the results since urine and blood tests test for the same hormone. Considering you have done 6 pregnancy tests, and they all tested positive it seems to me you are pregnant. Congratulations and best of luck!

I have to beg to differ. I took as many test as this woman did and finally went to get a blood syrum test and was negative the doctor told me that blood in the urine from a bladder infection can and will give a false positive, you need to get a blood test done asap then you will truely know if you are pregnant also ask them to check if your at risk for chemical pregnancy as well.
