Dark brown or blackish thick blood during the periods indicates old blood and that the blood is not being expelled from the body quickly. It is normal to have colour changes in the menstrual blood initially. But if it is a permanent condition or is associated with any foul odour then it can be indicative of infection and definitely needs a careful evaluation.
If any other symptom arises consider visiting a Gynaecologist for evaluation.
