Hi,

Iam new here. I am 41 this year. I live with my 3 children, 1 dog and 2 bunnies. I dont really know where to post my questions, so let me share it here...

My brother accidentally cut his thumb, and there was a little bleeding. He managed to stop the bleeding however, he got into this habit of biting his thumb. The thumb is now beginning to turn a bit of "blackish" I advised him to go see a doctor, but he refused. What should I do? nurse

Hi adelle34562. Welcome to ehealth forum!
Your brother should definitely see a doctor about that wound. Asisde from bruising, when a cut or injury turns black it means that the flesh is dying. He may have introduced bacteria from his mouth into the cut. At the very least, he should stop biting it and use a triple antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin. But I think this may have advanced to the point that he needs a doctor's help with this. If I were you, I would continue to nag him about this until he seeks medical help!
