Hello,I am 35 years old, man. Two and half years ago I noticed some very small cracks on my birthmark, let's say like 2 small small holes. The birthmark was 3-4 mm , symetric, the edges are well defined, uniform colour, and during the time it did not change its size.
Two weeks ago, after using a tanning cream so my skin could become a bit more darker ,I noticed some crust on one of the holes.I got very afraid and I used Betadine, the crust went away and it looked like before.I went to my family doctor and after she checked, she said it looks normal even with the small cracks, and she performed a small surgery and took the birthmark off.
Now,I am so so afraid after reading all kind of stuff on the internet,I could not find an answer:if the birthmark had those small lesions for such a long time, does it means it is cancerous?Could be a melanoma even in above mentioned conditions? If would have been a melanoma, shouldnt have been changed in such a long time ,2 and half years?
I hope for an answer.

Hello,

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out. Your concern is regarding the changes in the birthmark that you noticed and the removal of the same. As a thumb rule, any changes in the mole should be evaluated for a melanoma from a dermatologist. Melanoma has an irregular border, is asymmetrical, of uneven color and increasing in size. As you have already got the lesion surgically removed, you should notice for any reappearance of the lesion. I don’t suspect the lesion to be malignant. However, it makes sense to consult a dermatologist for the same.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
