Q: Birthcontrol and antibotics

I took Levaquin on tuesday which is an antibotic, I only took one pill and I am on birthcontrol and I take my pills faithfully everyday!!! I had unprotected sex on Saturday and I want to know if the antibotic will interfere with the effectivness of my birthcontrol???

Yes, antibiotics can interfere with birth control.

I know that it can interfere with it but i only took one antibotic pill???? Could there be a chance that i could get pregnant just from taking that one pill??

there is no actual clinical study that proves that antibiotics (other than rifampin) have any large effect on birth control pills.
with that being said, there is a small chance that in certain women antibiotics CAN cause the pills to not function properly, but the chance that you could be one of those rare cases is slim.

doctors and pharmacists only suggest using back-up methods because of the minimal cases where the pill's efficacy is decreased.

in light of the lack of evidence regarding major drug interactions, I would not worry if I were you. If you want, take a HPT. But I think it will be negative.
