My girlfriend is considering starting birth control and has had trouble in the past with remembering to take medications on time, so daily pills are probably not a good idea. She experienced major weight gain in the past that she attributes to Depo (sp) shots. She's 30 years old, has irregular periods, (only a few a year) due to something like ovarian cysts. She told me the long name, but I can't remember it. I have urged her to talk to her doctor and rather than just stop taking meds, follow up with her doctor regarding undesirable side effects. I'm here to see what I can find out, in order to be a somewhat educated sounding board for her. Any advice is welcome.

It sounds like your girlfriend may be experiencing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). What medications is she considering stopping?
