Q: Birth control pills and unexpected vaginal bleeding
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 2nd, 2009
I am on the pill but I have missed one here and there in the 9 months i have been taking it but always take it the next day. I have had unprotected sex with my fiancee but I have been having what i think as periods. I sometimes have them 2 times a month or just he regular once a month. We do have 3 children already and it doesnt feel like when i was pregnant with them but then I wasnt taking the pill. I was just wondering if there is any way I could be pregnant and if the pill could be causing me to bleed like I am having a period.

It cannot be determined whether you are pregnant based on the data you provided. The exact brand of the pill was not reported. The number of days before the intercourse that you took the pill as recommended might have been helpful, also.

If you are taking a birth control pill that contains hormones (as most pills do), then it might have affected your hormonal balance and might have caused unexpected vaginal bleeding.
