Q: Birth Control pills and alcohol

About a year ago, I started taking Tri Nessa, the generic Ortho Tri Cyclen. This was my first experience with birth control and every time I would drink alcohol, the next day, I would vomit repeatedly. It was always the day after drinking, not the night that I was drinking. I got off the pill for a few months, then started taking it again a few months ago, and I'm having the same reaction. Any thoughts? Should I switch brands? Try something other than pills? Thanks. rainbow earth

How about drink less alcohol? Wink

Birth control can affect the way a woman's body processes alcohol and can intensify the effects of alcohol. Any pill you take could have the same effect.

Do you drink a good amount of water before you go to bed on nights when you're drinking alcohol? It will help your mornings out a lot.

The amount of alcohol you consume is definitley a factor... =) that time that you were off the pill, did you vomit at all?

In the meantime, I would suggest laying off the alcohol for a couple months, just to let your body adjust to the birth control. Then maybe have a drink and see how that makes you feel. And if you're still vomiting then I would go straight to the doctor and tell them whats going on and to see what other options you have in regards to birth control!

Good luck! And cheers!
