Hi all,

We have been trying for 18 months with help of ovulation kits. After a while my doc tested my testosterone and results were slightly elevated levels of free testosterone. She said it was very mild and may be interfering with my TTC. She now wants me to go on birth control for 6 months to set my harmone level ready to work well with clomid.

I have never heard of anyone go on birth control for so long before trying clomid. I have been ovulating based on my BBT's (no tests done) so I am not sure if she is even doing the right thing. She said I might be on borderline PCOS, not a typical pcos patient. I am on BMI 20 and pretty thin for my height. So, just based on my slightly elevated testosterone levels I am not convinced to go on the pill and then clomid. She has not tested me for any tube blockages or any other cause for infertility. some forums talked abt the pill before clomid but not for so long! Also will the pill affect my TTC at a later stage? I start my pills as soon as I start my period and I am still thinking about switching my doctor but I do believe she is trying to go the way to have maximum benefit of clomid but just am not convinced. She really gets impatient with too many questions Sad

Appreciate your response. Thanks in advance!

I would like to know how could someone be told to be on bc pills before going on clomid?? Sounds weird. I would go for a second opinion to make sure that is the right thing.

Re: Birth control pill before going on clomid
I have! My Dr. told me the same thing. She said that when you take birth control it shuts down your system so that nothing happens. Then when you go on Clomid after birth control it jump starts your system and kicks your ovaries into gear. Apparently, if your hormones are way out of wack, then this is a very effective way to get started ovulating... but it does seem weird since it's not the norm.

if you take the birth control you should stop clomid , because clomid it stop your androgen hormone and let the progesterone going out , in your case, if you have PCOS and you dont want to conceive keep taking birth control if you want to conceive, you should start take mitformin & stop the birth control and once your period comes, on the day 5 of your cycle take clomid from 5th till 9, you should ovulate on the day 14, try to get kit ovulation or do BBT every day you will see your body temperature and it should be rise on ovulation's day , my advise dont take clomid and birth control in the same time it will impact your reproductive system and your hormone system. ask your doctor about that is very important to know.

CLOMID AND BIRTH CONTROL???
My doctore told me to do the same thing. She was really fast in explaining too so I dont understand what I am suppose to do. She gave me 50 mg of Clomid and BC pills. Plus four refills. She didnt raise the strenght of Clomid. I'm not comforatble taking BC then clomid for four months straight. I've never been on birth control in my whole life. I dont know what to do but it seems like I have no other coice. I wonder if any others have concieved like this, I am 31 and have been TTC for 7 years, just saw ab OBGYN last month. Someone please help me.
