Birth control pill before going on clomid Posted: 03-19-08 20:01pm
Hi all,
We have been trying for 18 months with
help of ovulation kits. After a while my
doc tested my testosterone and results
were slightly elevated levels of free
testosterone. She said it was very mild
and may be interfering with my TTC. She
now wants me to go on birth control for 6
months to set my harmone level ready to
work well with clomid.
I have never heard of anyone go on birth
control for so long before trying clomid.
I have been ovulating based on my BBT's
(no tests done) so I am not sure if she is
even doing the right thing. She said I
might be on borderline PCOS, not a typical
pcos patient. I am on BMI 20 and pretty
thin for my height. So, just based on my
slightly elevated testosterone levels I am
not convinced to go on the pill and then
clomid. She has not tested me for any tube
blockages or any other cause for
infertility. some forums talked abt the
pill before clomid but not for so long!
Also will the pill affect my TTC at a
later stage? I start my pills as soon as I
start my period and I am still thinking
about switching my doctor but I do believe
she is trying to go the way to have
maximum benefit of clomid but just am not
convinced. She really gets impatient with
too many questions
Appreciate your response. Thanks in
advance!

I would like to know how could someone be
told to be on bc pills before going on
clomid?? Sounds weird. I would go for a
second opinion to make sure that is the
right thing.

I have! My Dr. told me the same thing. She
said that when you take birth control it
shuts down your system so that nothing
happens. Then when you go on Clomid after
birth control it jump starts your system
and kicks your ovaries into gear.
Apparently, if your hormones are way out
of wack, then this is a very effective way
to get started ovulating... but it does
seem weird since it's not the norm.
