I am 38 years old and my current insurance does not cover any type birth control or the associated exams, so am looking for some low cost options. I was on the pill from age 17 to 30 and did not have any adverse reactions, so I am not opposed to trying that again; however I am concerned about the effects of hormones at my age. We are currently using condoms, but this is not ideal as he has sensitivity issues due to medication he takes. We have also not ruled out having children in the future, so permanent methods are out of the question. I am also concerned about side effects from IUD's/Mirena. Currently, I am leaning towards a cervical cap/diaphragm or even OTC sponges, but have never used these types of methods before and am not sure what to expect with them. Would love to hear experiences from other over 35's regarding any of these methods. Also, if you can give me an idea of what the cost is that would be great! Thanks!
