Hello! I am taking LoEstrin 24, I have recently purchased the East West Essentials Optimal 5 Day Cleanse hopeful to lose weight, and with that received a bottle of herbal supplements called East West Essentials Optimal Movement. Ingredients are Hou Po (Cx Magnoliae Officinalis 48.5, Da Huang (Rx/Rz Rhei) 24.2, Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas) 18.2, and Zhi Shi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus) 9.1. I have cross referenced as best as I can to find interactions with birth control, but haven't found sufficient answers, was hoping someone may know or suggest how I could find out for sure. I am from a small city with small surrounding cities and no physicians in my area have much expertise in herbal supplements and interactions with modern medicine. Thanks so much for your consideration to my question.

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
There are no concrete evidences or proper studies done on the interaction of herbal ingredients with hormonal birth control. These might affect the efficacy of your birth control. The Cleanse causes alterations in your gastric functions that might affect absorption of the hormones contained in birth control pills. Use back-up protection while having intercourse for additional protection if you are worried about pregnancy, and avoid having unprotected sexual contact if you are not ready for pregnancy. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Take adequate rest. Drink plenty of water. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle.
Take care.
