Q: Birth control and the Nuva ring
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 4th, 2009
I took out my nuva ring on June 2, my husband and I are trying to conceive, i was only on it since the 28th of may with my last period May 21. My fertile days were june 2 and 3 and my ovulation day suspected the 4th. I have not had withdrawl bleeding, like I have in the past. We have been having intercourse 2-3 times a day since i removed it, can i still get pregnant now?

A Nuva ring is a birth control product that releases continuously small dose of estrogen and progestin. These are the same hormones that are used in the Pill. They both work simultaneously to prevent ovulation by reducing the production of follicle-stimulating hormone which is responsible for egg maturation.

If you want to conceive then simply take out the nuva ring—your fertility should return in a short period of time. Results of a clinical study indicate that return to normal ovulation typically occurs within 13 to 28 days following removal of the ring.

In your case, you might want to wait for the next ovulation when the effects of the nuva ring are likely to be stopped.

You might want to visit your gynecologist and receive additional information about conception after removing the nuva ring.
