On the fourth day of my first active week (Thursday), my doctor ordered me to take the maximum dose of milk of magnesia before I had an ultra sound of a cyst on my ovary the next day (Friday). I took my BC pill about 10:30 p.m. and the laxative at 11:30 p.m.

My partner and I had sex that Friday and Saturday and some the next week. Besides the birth control, it was otherwise unprotected. I haven't missed a pill and I've taken all of them on time.

For the last two weeks my breasts have been unbelievably sore. So sore it hurts to walk across the room. Also, when I get a chill I notice my nipples tingle. The veins in my breasts have deepened a lot in color, and my arms feel real heavy. I've been having minor cramps in my pelvic area. Today I notice extreme sensitivity to smell.

Also, every month for the last week of active pills I have a thick brown discharge. Doc said not to worry, it was old blood. This month I didn't have the brown discharge. It's the first time in more than five months that I haven't.

Could the laxative have affected my birth control? I figured it would be OK since it was within the first week of the active pills, but I haven't had symptoms like this before. What are the chances that I may be pregnant? My period isn't due until this coming up Wednesday or Thursday (today is Saturday). When should I take a test?

It doesn't seem likely to me that the laxative you've taken could decrease birth control pills' effectivness because you took the laxative after you had taken the birth control pill.

Chances for getting pregnant in your case are less than 2 %.

You can take a test after your expected period gets late.
