I had been on the pill for over a year(YAZ) and in march i began getting breakthrough bleeding. My doctor switched me to Loestrin 24, and the bleeding did not stop. I was then put on Femcon FE and did okay for about two weeks, then started my period while i was taking the active white pills. I saw my doctor two weeks after i started that period because i was still bleeding. That was last wednsday. She took me off all birth control and said the pill can cause abnormal bleeding and i may be a case where i just cannot be on the pill at all. Tomorrow will be a week since i have been off the pill and i have not stopped bleeding completely. It has lightened since sunday, stopped completely for short periods of time but there is still some spotting. I have no sex life anymore and am so frustrated, can the pill cause constant bleeding and if that IS the cause, how long can it take to return to normal??

I have been having the same problem. I was told about 4 years ago that I had PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome, which causes irregular periods and inability to conceive, so my doctor, like yours, put me on Yaz and my bleeding actually became worse on the pill than before I was taking the pill. I went back to see him, and he just switched me to a different brand, and the bleeding continued. By this time, I am really frustrated and I quit taking them all together and within about 2 weeks my bleeding was gone. It really depends on the hormonal level of a persons body as to how the pill will work for them, therefore, causing the abnormal heavy bleeding in some women like us. Since then, I have tried to get back on birth control and the same problem occurs every time.
