Hi,

I'm looking for advice. In the past I have had difficulties with birth control. I became sexually active when I was 16 and initially I tried using the pill and it made me very sick and nauseous so I stopped. I then tried the injections and they were even worse making be feel quite ill and caused me period problems so I stopped that as well. Finally I tried the implant which gave me headaches, made me dizzy and upset my weight.

After these problems I couldn’t seem to find a contraceptive that worked for me so gave up and used condoms which are good for short relationships and the initial stages of a relationship but quickly become really annoying with serious boyfriends when having sex regularly.

So after I’ve been in a relationship for a while I stop using condoms and switch to the “Pull Out” technique and just ask boyfriends not to cum inside me.

I’m now nearly 23 and have had have had regular unprotected sex with 5 (including my current) boyfriends using the “pulling out” technique. All my boyfriends have been good at using this technique but I’m aware that it’s not a particularly safe one even when done properly and of course accidents have happened on several occasions where a BF has ejaculated inside me.

I feel I’ve been lucky up to now and haven’t fallen pregnant yet, even when accidents have happened. I don’t want to get pregnant so want to get on some form of birth control but don’t know what to try next as I’ve had trouble in the past.

Any help or advice would be appreciated!
Fiona.

I just wrote in one of the other forums about Lutera, I started taking it about a month ago and it's been pretty good so far. It was recommended to me at Planned Parenthood because of the association between the low hormones and the decreased chance of causing weight gain. Although I feel like I might have gained a little weight, the only other side effects I've experienced have been increased appetite and some lethargy. I was on Cesia before Lutera (another generic brand) and actually liked this better than Lutera - I only stopped because it was the brand they offered at my college and I recently graduated. Planned Parenthood didn't offer it and many doctors haven't heard of it - I can't find much information about it on the web either, otherwise I'd recommend you try that. But I had no side effects at all with Cesia, so I may just be someone who doesn't really experience side effects from birth control. Anyway, I hope this helps!

Also, I have a friend who uses a Paraguard IUC insert, and she loves it. They're completely hormone free, which might help you solve problem of the headaches, dizziness and weight gain. I've considered switching from BC pills to it. Just a thought!

Why don't you use the sponge, female condom or diaphragm, something that contains no hormones? I used to use condoms and VCF, vaginal contraceptive film. I really liked VCF because it wasn't as messy as some other spermicides and I didn't have to worry about removing it after sex. It comes in paper thin sheets and is similar in texture to a Listerine breath strip. Strange but true, lol. It dissolves in minutes with your body heat and worked very well for me.
