bipolar disorder is overdiagnosed
so are problems with parents.
who didn't have a problem with their parents, and who didn't cause problems for their parents?
what is the qualification to be diagnosed bipolar?
what kind of problems are you referring to with your parents?

Extremely eHealthy
Many people are too quick to jump and blame the child's behavior on poor parenting. When a child has pediatric bipolar disorder their behavior is beyond their control and the control of the parent. To paraphrase Dr. Ross Greene, children will behave if they are able to, as opposed to the notion that children will behave if they want to. This is how life is for a child that has bipolar disorder. The behaviors do not stem from an external source. The behaviors are the outward symptom of a neurobiological disorder called bipolar disorder. This is a very real physical disorder that effects the brain and thus, the behavior and moods of the person afflicted with the disorder. Parenting style has nothing to do with a child having bipolar disorder.

what kind of problems
the kind of problems that i ment is such problems in parents behavior that made you feel angry with your parents, dont feel comfortable with them, dont like to be with them.
For example the permantly abusive behavior of one parent to the rest of family can be such a problem.
Obviously, im reffer to serious and permant problems between child and parent relationship.

hi redhata,
i think bp is a chemical issue first and foremost. but, i also think that parents can add to the pain of being bp or, in other words, agitate bp disorder. also, it is often the case that someone with bp will attribute their anger/frustrations to a family member or close friend. my oldest brother is bp 2, not medicated, and he does this. he was committed for wanting to kill our mother bc god told him to and he believed she was evil.

hello puzzld,
actually i dont think that bipolar disorder has to do with parents behavior and i do think that is matter of chemical inbalance. I just trying to be open mind in this issue. I did this poll cause I red somewhere in the internet that parents behavior can be related with bipolar disorder. I also had serious problems with my parents behavior and im bipolar, and of course im not trying to say that my parents are the reason of my illness. I just want to enlighten this option too.

hi puzzld,
nice to meet you too and talking with you
my bipolar historic is here:

I think that my parents bad behavior has to do somehow with my illness, my sister also is suffering from panic attacks. Im also sceptic that this bad behavior of my parents could be the result of mental illness that they have and passed to me as bipolar disorder through genes. From the other hand now, i know a family that had similar problems but only the youngest child have mental problems, the other children(3) have no mental problems. As you can see i dont know nothing and im not sure for nothing about this issue and of course im not blaming anyone for my illness. Actually i believe that the worst thing that i can do to myself, is to say "ok, im bipolar and my parents are responsible for this", because i have to fight my own illness without pseudo excuses and without feeling pity about myself. If you red my bipolar historic, there is not even a year that i was diagnosed and treated as bipolar, but my problems started from 1993, so im just starting to realize the cross that i have to carry.
regards
