my brother has bipolar and he relapsed, the doctor at the hospital told us that he should now divorce his wife and child and that he would never work again nor lead a normal life.is this true?I dont understand why he got sick again and he was hospitalised but came out after a week and its 3 months since, did not get better til today, his back in hospital in a manic state.what are the chances of episodes and the severity of them even if he does take his medication.I thought that with meds he would not become depressed or manic and that his moods would be like normal healthy people, will he able to have more children and stay married?

Every case is individual. No two bipolar cases are the same. Getting a divorce is a bit extreme. It is very hard to be in a relationship with someone who is bipolar. Once he gets on the right medication and can find a balance, he will be able to live a life that is what we consider to be normal (or a life as normal as possible) then it will be much easier for him to stay married and to get a job. It will be important that he always see a therapist on a regular basis, that way if things start to go wrong, the therapist can warn him and the family, and help him get the help he needs before its to late.
