Ever since I've been diagnosed as being Bipolar, every time I have a bad day or get upset about something, it automatically has to do with my Bipolar. Not because I'm a human with regular emotions that has a bad day or gets upset like everyone else.

When I came back to work after 10 weeks and my diagnosis, one of the company's owners (she claimed she had been through something similar before) had claimed I was very manic (she didn't say this to me of course). I got a call the next day from my doctor telling me not to go back to work, that my employer had called her and was worried. It was just to get me out because they had found a temp they wanted to keep, but I hope she felt a little bad when I sent that one into the unemployment office.

But really... I know I can't be the only one that has to hear this Wink

Wow, did your employer have your explicit permission to share information about your disorder with the doctor? You would have needed to sign a release form for that.

You are right. I think people scrutinize your behavior and moods more closely when they know you have a mood disorder. My son, 10 yrs old, has bipolar disorder. I try not to chalk up every little out burst to the disorder. It becomes any excuse. You may need to say something to people about this. You could tell them that you are human and have emotions and moods. Reming them that you are being treated for the disorder. They don't need to be that mindful of your moods.

Your employer is walking on thin ice. She may be in violation of your rights. These rights are under the Americans with disabilities act. Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with this. Protect yourself and your job.

You are not alone in this. If you have experienced something it is sure that someone else has too. Hang in there. You can vent here with no judgement and find lots of support and rapport with others.

very surprised she called your doc Shocked

i had a similar situation happen to me when i disclosed to my employer that i was bp. not too long after i got the boot. i was in bad shape and trying desperately to find the right meds and keep my job. guess i didn't do it fast enough. i expressed to my employer that i was doing everything i could do get well asap.

i found out after the fact and on this forum that i have rights. and that there is a right way and a wrong way to disclose to your employer your illness. i didn't do it the right way. i never asked for any help with duties so nothing was altered with regards to my routine at work. i just said it and nothing changed. now i'm properly medicated and have a new and wonderful job Cool

i believe things happen for a reason. and, when one door closes another one opens. you just have to knock on lots of doors! lol.

best to you!

Sorry to hear that you lost your job, I got stressed with my job and quit before the employer decided to let me go. But I am also ADHD and I have had 28 different jobs in my life, It is a routine with me, work 6 months off 6 months back and forth.
