I was told I had hydronephrosis too.....my doctor said it was "mild" and looked like it was a "long standing" condition...."notHing to run to the ER about," he said. "Just keep an eye on it and if you notice any drastic changes or discomfort, come in and see me." Well, less than 6 months after he told me that, I had all these symptoms that I couldn't quite put together, and most of all, extreme fatigue and pain on the lower left side of my abdomen. I was taking a bubble bath and when I turned to the side to grab my soap, I got a HORRIBLE sharp pain and it was so overwhelming I mean, I saw STARS. I felt instantly sick and hot. I had to get out of the tub. Later that night, I had a low grade fever and the pain had traveled now to my back. I went to the ER and ended up having to get surgery b/c my ureter (the tube that leads from each kidney, to the bladder) was blocked off with only a pinhole opening and was not allowing any urine to pass through..it was barely functioning. I had a severe infection and had to have all of the old urine drained out of my kidney, as it was 3 x the size of a normal kidney. I had to have my ureter cut and repaired too......it was a NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE and the surgeon told me if I had waited any longer, the kidney probably would have died and caused major problems for me........ Not telling you this to scare you, but my point is simply, trust YOURSELF. it's YOUR body. go with your instincts and if you feel your doctor is nonchalant about something that's really concerning you, go see a new doctor for a 2nd opinion IMMEDIATELY. Sometimes so many different health problems can mimmick each other in symptoms from mild to severe, and when a doctor doesnt know what you have, they tend to downplay it so that they ease your mind and don't look like they don't know what they're talking about. I suggest you pay closer attention to when you're getting these symptoms, what brings them on etc...any patterns or causes that you notice. Write everything down. any questions you have no matter how insignificant, even if it's the smallest thing. Then take all your info to a NEW doc who will listen to your concerns.
