Anyone find that using a bidet to wash involved genitals after sexual intercourse prevents sex-related irritations, infections, or diseases? For oneself? For one's partner?

A bidet is effective in rinsing the genital area. It will not prevent any STDs. You need to use a barrier to prevent STD infection. Condoms are effective means of preventing transmission of STDs. Bacteria can be passed during intercourse that is not an STD. A bidet may help rinse it from the surface of the skin and tissue. This type of bacteria is usually on the skin. STDs are passed in bodily fluid - semen or vaginal secretions. Good hygiene can prevent some bacterial transfer from one partner to another. STDs need to be treated with the proper medication and will not wash away.

Thanks, Antigone. I'm familiar with the prevailing medical view you summarize so well. But I'm hoping this forum will attract some women willing to share what they have experienced personally.

There has been no scientific research on bidet use and its effectiveness vis-a-vis STDS. Not even statistical surveys. So we're all still relying on judgments and generalizations that can be clarified and assessed with the help of personal testimonies.
