I'm going to share some experience with some meters, but
keep in mind this is just my experiences, and opinions from them.
I have used about a few glucose monitors at this point, some bought, some given to me by various endos.
The reason I am writing this is because it's VERY difficult to find a blood glucose meters that pick up accurate lows. Most meters are not reliable at catching lows, even in professional settings.
Also, you can check your sugar at the same time with 4 different meters, and get 4 VERY different results, and sometimes the results could be dangerously different.
The reason I consider some of these accurate is because I have been allowed to test my meters from the same blood as vein draws, every 2 hours for 5 days, and correlate the results. (Yes I was very very bruised).
I have experienced:
Advanced Intuition: This unit is somewhat reliable, but would not reccomend it for lows. Very cheap (30-40 cent / strip) At a vein level of 52 this unit gave me a 69.
Accucheck Aviva: I did not get to check this unit with vein draws, any input/experiences would be appreciated! Cost is high, around $1 per strip.
Reli-On/Precision: This unit is AMAZINGLY reliable. My #1 pick. At vein draws of 69 I got 72, 62 I got 65, 59 I got 63, 80 I got 81, 110 I got 114.
These strips cost around 42 cent each under the reli-on brand, about $1 each under the Precision brand.
OneTouch Ultra Mini: Pretty reliable meter. Gives LOWER values than lab.
Draws of 80 I received 70, 64 i got 52, and 67 i got 54. Strips are about $1 each.
BD Paradigm Link: Read below:
BD Novamax: I personally have had TERRIBLE experiences with both of these monitors. I have gotten 50 points different from the same blood on more than 20 occaisions.
If I could reccomend ANY monitor to any of you suffering with lows, I would reccomend the Reli-On / Precision monitor. This monitor is sold at nearly every Wal-Mart in america under the Reli-On brand for $8.88. It is the EXACT same monitor as the Precision monitor, but the strips are less than half the price, and it is compact, and in my experience, the best monitor I have ever used.
Just trying to help anyone who is having problems with the way they are feeling sometimes not correlating with their sugars, sometimes the problem is the meter.
Just some opinions, hope someone can benefit.
