Hi there, I underwent an emergency appendectomy (keyhole) 4 weeks ago now. I was having severe upper abdominal pain for 2 weeks until one morning I woke up with severe appendix pain. The upper pain was dull and gnawing. I saw my doc that morning and he suggested it be my gallbladder but after I saw him I was rushed to casualty as pain in my appendix area got worse. Now 4 weeks on I am experiencing the same pain. I also have redness, tiny swelling and ooze from the belly button (although very slight). I have been cleaning the area every day with Savlon liquid which has helped. The other incisions are perfect and have healed really well. I understand the belly button insicion can be a difficult one to heal but is there any way that the upper pain could be linked to the incision or could it be something else? Any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated as you can understand my doctor let me down when I was very ill. I will find it hard to take his word for it. Thank you!

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

The presence of a discharge at the umbilicus along with persistent pain could be a sign of presence of a fistula or a intraabdominal abscess arising as a late complication of the appendicitis or the surgery.

You might consult with your treating doctor who might order a CT scan to confirm the diagnosis or rule out other possible causes.

I hope this helps.
