Hi lately i have been having some serious sleep issues. About 3 months ago i started a new job working 12 hour midnights. 7 days on then 7 days off. At the same time my fiance started a traveling job where he is only home 8 days out of the month. The first 4 times it happened it was over about a month and a half. I thought it was my cat at the end of the bed but the 3rd and 4th time it happened i looked down and he wasnt there. It happens within the first 15-30 minutes of going to sleep, i will wake up to my bed shaking below me. So finally the fifth time it happened i wanted to make sure i wasnt having siezures or anything. I sat up in bed, started eating some peanuts and drank some water and switched the channel on the t.v. So for a while i stayed at my mothers and aunts house and it didnt happen. But then it evnetually did. Now it happens everynight. Even when my fiance is in town. Just last night i took a nap on the couch and it happened. And i called him over but he said it really wasnt shaking. i have also made sure to talk out loud when it happened and i can function fine. It does go away after about 10 seconds of sitting up. But one time i didnt sit up and it continued. I have researched this for months now and i have not come across a post like mine. Every other one says that they are paralysed and cant speak. I have no idea whats going on. If anyone has gone through this or heard of this please post back!

Hi there, I have been experiencing almost exactly what you described for the past few weeks (maybe 2 months) and I am not having any luck finding out anything about it on the internet, either. I have found some forum posts from people saying they can get similar things to this when going through periods of major stress or anxiety, but I do not feel that is the case in my situation. I get it even when I am totally relaxed, like if I fall asleep while getting an acupuncture treatment (relaxing!) or while nursing my 8 month old (also relaxing!). I mentioned it to my doctor a while back when it first started but she did not seem too concerned, though she did say I could get my heart tested because at the time I had trouble telling if it was heart palpatations or this sort of "internal tremor". I didn't follow up because at the time it didn't seem that bad/frequent but now it is to the point where it is becoming rather worrisome and very regular, and I think it even wakes my baby up when she is sleeping next to me. A few things I tracked down through my own research which you may want to read more about, mention to your doc or get tested for (I plan to bring this up again): nervous system disorders (like seizures), heart arrythmias, sleep apnea (where you stop breathing during sleep), or maybe anxiety. If you find out anything please do post, and I'll try to do the same! Best wishes for peaceful sleep!

I'm having similar experiences
I've been waking up thinking that the bed is shaking for a very long time (years). At first I thought my husband must be shaking it but it happens when he's not in the bed too so it can't be him.

Recently it's more frequent, nearly every night now. Also this month I've been feeling like it's shaking when I'm just lying down and haven't gone to sleep yet but when I raise my head to look, nothings moving.

I've not been able to find any other posts but you two here. Please post here if you find any links to information of any condition that might cause this sensation.

Thanks

Hey I've been having the same type of shaking issues, only I know its ME who is shaking, not the bed or couch. This only seems to happen when I lie down for a short nap; it's not like I awake abruptly that I know of, it just does it even if I wake calmly. It has happened to me months ago then suddenly stopped. I don't feel stressed out or feel anxiety creeping up on me either. I'm not doing anything different in my lifestyle habits except about a month ago, I had a tubal ligation, got off birth control pills, and now sleep more heavily than I have in over a year. I don't know if any of this should be associated with that?

Also, when I lie down for the day [I work 3rd shift] I will get on the brink of sleeping and this feeling of adrenaline rushes over me and causes me to be conscious again. Its very annoying!!

Actually, I found out its caused by nerves. It will get worse because I spoke with my dad who has a long history of anxiety type disorders and he said that it got worse on him as time went by, but it stopped when they put him on Valium daily.

It is as if once your are in an anxiety state, you can't get out of it. How the body reacts alone from it is scary. Thank you for letting me know.
