Q: Bad smell before and after period

I'm 39 and I have no children.
For the past 4 years just before and just after my period (much worse at the end of my period) I get a bad smelling discharge. It smells like rotting vegetables, its very strong and very embarassing!
Just recently I've had loop treatment for abnormal cervical cells and I'm terrified that I've got cancer and that somehow earlier smear tests missed it.
I'm too scared/embarrased to tell the doctor about this problem.
Please help.
