Q: Bad reaction to antibiotic

About 4 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a sinus infection (I have always had sinus issues and get a sinus infection about once a year). I received some antibiotics for it and about 2-3 days into taking them I had a real bad reaction: lots of diarrhea at first and then very strong dry heaves (but nothing was vomited). After a few days of nausea and bouts of loose stool it cleared up fine.

I stopped the antibiotics and was given a different kind but in 2 days had the same exact result. Again I stopped taking it but this time it took about a 4 days for the symptoms (nausea and loose stools along with some flu like symptoms - feels like the flu but I do not have a temp) to clear up.

While I was going through this my DR felt I had C.Diff so he had me start Flagyl for it but again after 2 days I had the same exact result with the severe dry heaves and diarrhea. This time the symptoms are continuing longer.

At this point he suspected something else is going on prior to me taking the first antibiotic. He suspects a type of colitis or Chrons. He could be right as I am pretty lactose intolerant and had IBS many years ago.

I had a gallbladder ultrasound and it was ok. My blood tests are ok and the stool sample for C.Diff is negative. I also do not have any blood in the loose stools but a looks like a lot of mucous.

My diet at this time is bananas & toast and it started feeling better a few days ago but then I had some plain pasta and in a few hours I again had diarrhea, abdominal pains and fever like symptoms. I started to feel a bit better a few days after that but then I tried to have some soup and the same result occurred.

My appt. with the GI specialist is in a few days but in the meantime it is obvious that my diet plan needs to be adjusted and thats what I have difficulty finding info on. Currently I still have some nausea and some cramping especially before , during and after a bowel movement.

I have figured out to take small amounts of any food and am sticking to bananas (good?) and toast. Is it better to not eat much at all or eat like a piece of toast 3 times in a day? Is too much water bad? Etc.

BTW sorry for the long post!
