Q: Bacterial Vaginosis / Yeast Infection

Every month for the past year I have had bv or a yeast infection or both at the same time right before my period. I have been on diflucan, boric acid, metro-gel, flagyl pills all to no avail. I recently had a d&c and 2 weeks after surgery my symptons have returned (yellowish vaginal discharge sometimes w/an odor and sometimes a cottage cheese appearance depending on the day) I noticed I have an increase in vaginal discharge when I have to go urinate and don't go right away. Any suggestions, help or specialist I should see? baffle

Are you sexually active? If so, with the same person and are you using protection?

I am not sexually active. My husband and I were active for 6 months and have stopped for the past 6 months.

My dr told me that bacteria and yeast can interchange. Maybe you are resistant to the medications after taking them for so long. The reason I ask about your partner is because my partner was carrying bacteria in his prostate (contrary to the non std belief). I knew because we had broken up for several months and he slept with another woman unprotected and she got bacteria too. After both of us were treated with flagyl for 14 days, it finally went away. I would recommend doing a long term treatment once and for all with multiple medications. I would recommend treating your husband with the same, just in case. Don't do it for only 7 days. The reason I say multiple medications (which I know is REALLY strong) is because you don't know which one you are resistant too. You have to treat the b.v and yeast at the same time too. If all this doesn't work, then I would see a medical licensed dr that practices holistic medicine. Good luck!

The only reason I say holistic is because they check for other underlying issues that can mess up your ph balance. Make sure they are licensed medical doctors as well.

i been married for 15 yrs and my babysitter went to the doctor to find that she has bv. i didn't know what that was. in the process i suspect that her and my husband may slept together. however we had sex and now i have bv and i never had any issues with my stuff. is it that he slept with her and gave it to me?
