IT sounds strange to me that this woman is trying to peg an infection on you...the cause of BV is not fully understood. In fact, not much is known about how women get Bacterial Vaginitis. Plus, any woman can get BV and women who have never had sexual intercourse may also be affected. It's still not clear what role sexual activity plays in the development of BV.
What doctor DO know is that bacterial vaginitis is associated with an imbalance in the bacteria that are normally found in a woman's vagina. Some activities or behaviors can upset the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina and put women at increased risk including:
* Having a new sex partner or multiple sex partners
* Douching
Is this woman perhaps trying to get closer to you emotionally by claiming that you are the cause of this condition?
Whatever the reason, you'll want to tell her that Vaginal PH tests are not intended for HIV, chlamydia, herpes, gonorrhea, syphilis, or group B streptococcus. She should also be checked out for these infections. And as if she's being treated with one of two different antibiotics: metronidazole or clindamycin. BV can recur, though...so she'll also want to boost her immune system.
