I have been getting conflicting information from my family doctor and my urologist. My doctor says that I could well have bacterial prostatitis even if my urine and semen samples come back clean. My urologist says not and that one of the tests will show it if it is bacterial. Have any of you heard any information on this?

thanks

Your doctor is correct. Prostatitis is rated in 4 categories. Cat. 3 and 4 are due to a bacterial infection and treated with an antibiotic and ibuprofen. Cat 2 and 3 are inflammation of unknown source. Cat. 1 is inflammation that is asymptomatic and no treatment is involved. Cat. 2 and 3 are harder to treat due to the unknown nature of the inflammation. Ibuprofen is used and sometimes antibiotics prophylactically. I hope this helps.
